On the road…
After a week of studying hard (not), I’ve finally received my learners permit!
For those people who are planning in getting their Learner’s permit soon (in Victoria, that is), please do not book your appointment a month in advance, you’re just wasting your time.
Here’s some tips:
- Get the earliest possible appointment available at your local VicRoads - preferably a week ahead. But be fast, appointments do disappear quick. DO NOT book a month in advance, you’ll be stressing out for no reason!
- Get the book, ignore the first half of the book because it is repeated in the ‘Rules and Responsibilities’ part of the 'Road to Driving Solo’ handbook, and is straight to the point.
- There will be an eyesight test. People who wear glasses regularly will need to wear them, just in case. People who have glasses and don’t wear them, then don’t wear them to the eyesight test, because if you do, then you’re stuck with wearing glasses while driving.
- The computer test consists of 32 questions, which you have to answer in order to pass. There is no time limit, unless your VicRoads is relatively busy and they start to rush you. There is no-one supervising the computer test, but staff can see you if you do cheat.
- All 32 questions are randomly chosen from the 320 questions put on their VicRoads website, so if you do the practice questions on their website, then you should pass, easy.
- Both test will last about 15 minutes, if you’re quick. If you pass, you’ll need to sign a few forms, pay for your license, then take a photo for your license. They’ll also give you a Learners permit receipt where you can use as your license until you receive your card in the mail - within a week or so.
That’s about it, and after all that, you’ll recieve a learners kit where you and your supervising driver will read and sign your 120 hours of driving.
